Ultrasound Therapy

Targeted therapeutic ultrasound for rehabilitation

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses high-frequency sound waves applied to targeted areas of soft tissue through a treatment head and coupling gel. It is a physiotherapy modality that may be considered for certain musculoskeletal problems as part of a wider treatment programme.

At Nova, ultrasound therapy is selected according to your individual presentation rather than being routinely applied to every condition. Your physiotherapist will assess the affected area and consider your symptoms, medical history and rehabilitation needs before deciding whether this modality is appropriate for you.

How We Treat Ultrasound Therapy

Treatment involves applying a small amount of gel to the skin before moving the ultrasound treatment head over the selected area. The therapist controls the treatment parameters according to the area being treated and the purpose of the session.

Ultrasound therapy is generally used alongside other physiotherapy techniques rather than as a standalone approach. Depending on your needs, your session may also include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, mobility work or rehabilitation advice to address the wider factors affecting your movement and function.
